Recyclable Packaging

Recyclable Packaging

Have you ever contemplated on whether to place plastic packing materials found in your gifts or packages in the trash or recycling bin? You’re not alone! The holiday season is when people tend to ask this question the most, especially considering that so many gifts are ordered and mailed with plastic packing material.

Recently, I received an item that I ordered online, which came securely packaged in plastic wraps like the types shown below. The plastic material is marked #2 and #4 or high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene, which you might remember from my colleague Alex Cross’ post as being a recyclable plastic! You can find these markings on the bottom or sides of the material within a triangle.

It is extremely important to verify that the type of plastic you have is recyclable. If you find that the plastic packaging is marked as being #2 or #4, then you can easily recycle the packaging through our Bag-2-Bag program. When in doubt, you can always check with your local grocer to verify the types of plastic it will accept for recycling.

Recycling bags and packing material is just one way you can help the environment and keep plastic within the recycling stream. And from all of us here at Hilex Poly, we wish you and your family a happy holidays! We will see you in 2013!
